Hi, all. My thyroid was removed ~48 hours ago (time is a slush), and I am loopy on a lot of pain meds. The surgery went well and I’m about as alive as I could be under the circumstances. Late James was probably overly ambitious reading material to bring to the hospital, but I’m home now watching the kind of bad TV that my drug-addled brain can handle (and reading the thematically relevant Mourning A Breast, which is less syntactically daunting than late James). Thrillingly, I’m allowed to shower today!
In any case, my friend Peter Baker (not the NYT writer, the novelist) started a Substack on which writers reflect on songs that matter to them. I urge you to a) subscribe and b) read my guest post about the Magnetic Fields and being a teenager, which was very emotional to write!
Wishing you a rapid return to full health!
Wishing you an uneventful and happy recovery!
