I have written a short piece about how irritating, stupid, and disingenuous some recent right-wing discussions of women in the workplace are; the long and short of it is that the reactionaries I have in mind pretend that all the women who choose to work instead of procreating have meaningless corporate jobs, which is not true, then conclude that the problem is women having such jobs and not the jobs themselves, which also is not true. The piece is here: https://thepointmag.com/forms-of-life/womens-work/.
I myself will be performing some meaningful work (and continuing to ignore my Natural End by remaining childless ☹️) on a panel at the National Book Festival at 4 tomorrow, as I mentioned before and am reminding you all again now. You can register for the live event here: https://www.loc.gov/events/2022-national-book-festival/schedule/item/event-404982/writing-is-thinking-the-essay-in-an-age-of-speed-with-morten-hoi-jensen-shawn-mccreesh-and-becca-rothfeld/2022-09-03/. You can watch a livestream here: https://www.loc.gov/events/2022-national-book-festival/schedule/watch-the-festival/.
If you happen to be in Oslo, Norway, on September 8 and 9, I will also be speaking at the Norwegian-American Literature Festival on panels with Christian Lorentzen, Jennifer Wilson, Jesse McCarthy, and James Wood, which is obviously an absolute dream. Details on can be found here: https://tidensand.no/nalf
I hope I won’t regret having read so much great literature and having so many wonderful conversations about it when I wake up at 35 without a baby :((((
It's a fabulous piece.
