Hello, all! I have two new pieces out: One, in Cabinet, is about three of my favorites, Eric Rohmer, Bataille, and Lionel Trilling. I promise, there ARE unlikely connections between the three: https://cabinetmagazine.org/kiosk/rothfeld_becca_1_april_2021.php
Very cool! I subscribe to Liberties, so hope to read your piece soon. Printed out the Cabinet piece to read tomorrow. Happy to hear you are getting out more. Reclaiming our lives in 2021 is doing ourselves a solid! ☺️🙏
Rohmer is one of my favorite filmmakers, so I was predisposed to like the Rohmer piece, but it was truly quite a fine piece. I am also unconvinced by Ebert's reading of Love in the Afternoon and was happy to discover that you agreed. I have never read that Trilling piece, but the parts you quoted and summarized definitely make me interested. I notice you cited the recent doorstopper biography, would you recommend purchasing/reading it?
